APPLICATION?
Question: How do I apply to the programme?
Answer: You can download the Application Form from this website. Please fill in the form and forward it with all obligatory enclosures to the Secretariat.
Question: Is it acceptable to only send the application form electronically?
Answer: No! We must receive a hard copy before the deadline. However, we do accept letters of recommendation sent as an attachment directly to us by the referee.
Question: Is the application deadline by postmark?
Answer: No! Your application must have been received at the Secretariat no later than the date of the deadline in order to be considered.
Question: Is it possible to apply to more than one ERASMUS MUNDUS programme?
Answer: Yes! You can apply to three programmes in total (both EMMC and EMJD). However, be aware of the specific academic requirements and profiles of each programme.
Question: Is is possible to apply as a part-time student?
Answer: No, all Erasmus Mundus students must study full-time.
Question: Can I apply, if I already hold an Erasmus Mundus degree?
Answer: It is only possible to obtain an Erasmus Mundus scholarship once, but you are welcome to apply as fee-paying student.
Question: Can I apply to an ERASMUS MUNDUS programme if I already hold an MSc degree?
Answer: Yes! It is possible to apply.
Question: Can I send the results of the language test after the deadline for submission?
Answer: Yes! But no later than 15 December. Note that assessment of your application can not be finalised until language test results have been received; you are therefore strongly encouraged to submit language results along with the application before the submission deadline. Please indicate on the form, when your language test is scheduled.
Question: I will not receive my BSc diploma before the deadline of submission expires; can I send my diploma after the graduation?
Answer: Due to application procedures and deadlines, this is only possible, if you are an EU citizen.Your university must,in that case, confirm in writing that you will graduate no later than July in the year of admission. You should immediately upon receipt of the certified diploma mail a certified copy to the Secretariat. Assessment of your application can not be finalised until the certified diploma has been received. Students from Non-EU/EEA-EFTA countries MUST submit their diploma with the application form.
Question: What kind of certification is required?
Answer: Your documents must have an original stamp and a signature verifying the “True Copy”. Typically, your university will be able to assist you in certifying your documents. Otherwise, we also accept signatures by embassies and representations or public offices, e.g. police stations.
Question: When will I get the result of my application?
Answer: If you are nominated for one of the Category A or B scholarships or are included on the Reserve List, you will hear from the Secretariat by the end of February. However, the final decision of the EU Commission and the confirmation of the scholarship will not be available until April at the earliest. Students who have been rejected for the programme will be notified late February. EU students, who apply as self paying student, will be notified as soon as possible after applying, at the latest by 20 July, if applying by the deadline of 15 July.
Question: Is it possible to re-apply for the programme?
Answer: If your application has been positively assessed and you are on the Reserve List, you are welcome to re-apply the following year. However, be aware that all the documents have to be submitted again with the application form.
Question: Will submitted material be returned to me?
Answer: No! Submitted material is never returned. It is destroyed or filed (for accepted students).
ADMISSION?
Question: What are the language requirements to join the programme?
Answer: All students will have to document English proficiency. We accept either IELTS (6.0) or TOEFL tests (min. 560 in paper-based test or IBT 83). If you are a native speaker of English or has completed your BSc degree in English, no formal test is required. The language test must be sent directly from the testing centre. For: TOEFL the institutional code is 4680; for IELTS please provide the test center with the exact address of the Erasmus Mundus Secretariat Alternatively, a certified copy of the test can be included with the application. Language tests must not be older than 2 years at the time of submission of the application.
ECONOMY?
Question: How much money is an Erasmus Mundus Scholarship?
Answer: The Category A Scholarship amounts to 24,000.00 EUR per year for two consecutive years.The Category B Scholarship amounts to 10.000 per year.

Question: When do I receive the first instalment?
Answer: You will receive the first instalment in cash immediately upon arrival to your first year institution. Instalments are not transferred prior to departure.
Question: Are there any other sources of funding available?
Answer: The Secretariat has compiled a list of relevant sources. Please consult the website for Alternative Sources of Funding.
Question: Can I get accepted as a fee-paying student?
Answer: Yes! If the Erasmus Mundus Commission evaluates your application positively, you can pay the participation costs yourself and join the programme.
Question: When do I have to pay participation costs?
Answer: The costs needs to be paid in full by the 1st of July for your first study year and 1st of July the following year. The Secretariat will forward an invoice including bank information.
Question: What will be the estimated costs of living in Europe?
Answer: The estimated costs are EUR 800 per month. The Student Handbook contains an overview of expenses and a student budget according to host institution.
VISA/RESIDENCE PERMIT?
Question: How can third-country students and scholars obtain a visa to study in Europe on an Erasmus Mundus Course?
Answer: Once third-country students and scholars have received a letter of admission from their first year institution, you must apply for a visa in your home country at the embassies of the respective European countries, which are involved in the Master Course. Scholars will receive a letter of confirmation as well as a letter of invitation from the host institution.
Question: When can I expect to receive my visa?
Answer: It generally takes 10-12 weeks to process a complete application. Therefore, we strongly recommend that you start the application process as soon as you receive your admission letter. The delay after handing in the complete application will be approximately 8 weeks
Question: From which date is my residence permit valid?
Answer: You residence permit is valid two weeks before study start.
INSURANCE?
Question: Do I need to purchase an insurance?
Answer: All students who receive an Erasmus Mundus Scholarship are covered by a complementary sickness and accident insurance All other students following an Erasmus Mundus Master course and third-country visiting teachers and researchers have to take out their own insurance as necessary.
ACCOMMODATION?
Question: How do I find accommodation?
Answer: Your host institution will assist you in finding accommodation. You will receive instructions and an application form for housing with your letter of admission.
TRAVEL?
Question: Who arranges and pays for my travel?
Answer: Unfortunately, the Secretariat is not able to assist you in your travel arrangements.
Therefore, you must take care of booking tickets yourself. Travel expenses are included in the scholarship (but scholarship instalments will not be transferred to you before your arrival).
